The Yankees were one of nine teams scouting Anna Benson's husband today. Benson threw 60 pitches and reportedly looked impressive. He missed all of last year after after undergoing surgery for a torn labrum. Benson has a career 4.34 ERA (102 ERA+) with a WHIP of 1.38, and is 34 years old. In 2006, his only season in the AL East, Benson posted a 4.82 ERA (95 ERA+) with a 1.40 WHIP and 88 K's in 183 IP. I would like a Benson signing if they could get him on a one-year deal, maybe with an option for a second year, at a low cost. That would be a low risk, moderate reward situation. I could see Benson as a spot starter/long reliever who could help ease the pressure on the young guys like Hughes, Joba and IPK, and also step into the rotation as a decent replacement if someone were to get injured. I would like to see the Yankees pursue Benson, but I would walk away if he asks for anything more than $2-3 million on a one-year deal.
