Yankees Defeat Reds to Avoid Sweep

The Yankees defeated Johnny Cueto and the Reds today to avoid being swept by the last-place team in the NL Central. The Reds threw three young pitchers at the Yankees in the series, and they all pitched pretty well. Edinson Volquez continued his great season on Friday, and yesterday Daryl Thompson didn't allow a run in five innings. I was at that game, and as you could probably tell on TV, the Yankees let Thompson off the hook. He couldn't throw strikes, and despite throwing in the mid-90's, he did not appear to have great stuff. The Yankees left two runners on in one inning, and then left them loaded the next. This can't happen, especially with Dan Giese pitching, and he pitched pretty well by the way. Today, the Yankees finally scored a few runs, against the struggling Johnny Cueto, although they did make him look pretty good. Hopefully the Yankees will continue winning tomorrow as they head to Pittsburgh to play the Pirates, beginning on Tuesday as Darell Rasner faces off against Tom Gorzellany.
