Marte Re-Signed

Marte has been re-signed to a 3 year deal worth 12 million with a club option for 2012. I`m not sure about this. They have a knack for picking out good arms from the minor leagues and using them in the bullpen. I`m also usually against signing relievers to long-term deals. However, Marte is the rare left-handed reliever who can get out righties as well. He`s also been very consistent over his career. 4 million isn't a big deal either. Essentially, you`re betting on whether the next three years of Marte will be better than the two draft picks they would get if they let him go. I wouldn't have made the deal but I can't say I hate it either.

I agree. I don't think its a good deal but Cash has some weird obsession with Marte. He's a good pitcher but relievers can be very volatile so I don't see why they didn't just pick up his option.
