Walking Off

Yet another dramatic win for the Yankees today as Johnny D wins the game with a walk off homer. Gardner had a chance to end the game in the eighth on a bunt by Cervelli. He keep rounding 3rd before Mauer threw the ball to first. In a great play he taged the speedster out. Gardner misjudged Mauer:
"I thought he was going to throw it to first, He got back to the plate a lot quicker than I thought he would."

This is the first time that the Yankees have won 3 straight walk-off wins since 1972. Girardi had this to say:
"I've never been a part of something like this, There's probably a few more gray hairs on my head after these last three, but they have things that take care of that."
As long as the Yankees keep winning I don't care how they do it.

Notes:
  • Chien-Ming Wang (hip) pitched seven shutout innings, only giving up 4 hits, in his second rehab start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, against Columbus.
  • Brian Bruney (elbow) started the second game of that Triple-A doubleheader and could be back with the big club by Tuesday. Woo Hoo the 8th inning will be safe.
  • The Twins are 1-for-25 with runners in scoring position during the series, stranding 34 overall.
