Hughes To Be 5th Starter

Well as soon as I wrote that the 5th starter spot should belong to Joba; the Yankees go out and confirmed that Hughes is the 5th starter.

This is the wrong move. I've most of my argument but in short Joba will improve with no limits. Young pitchers generally tend to improve as time goes on. Joba even has a better track record than Hughes. Joba has pitched better and longer as a starter than Phil Hughes yet the Yankees seemingly ignored all of this for one measly sample of Spring Training games. This is ridiculous. Unless there's something we don't know about then I consider this to be a huge mistake form our Front Office.

The Yankees can't keep on buying the top of their rotations anymore. The 2009 offseason where CC Sabathia and AJ Burnett were both available from a great class of SP just won't happen anymore. Don't believe me? Check out the next few years in free agency. Next year the best free agents would be Josh Beckett, Cliff Lee and Ben Sheets if Javier isn't resigned. I'd pass on Beckett honestly. I'd love Lee though he might be a tad expensive in the year where the Yankees HAVE to re-up Derek Jeter and Mariano Rivera. Plus Carl Crawford is out there too.

The Yankees NEED to develop young, cost effective starters. Putting Joba in the bullpen is a complete MISTAKE. Yes they are developing Hughes but they can easily develop Hughes without hurting Joba. If they send either of them to AAA then I wouldn't mind who came out on top. but this bullpen this is ludicrious. The Bullpen is a strength with or without Joba in it. Mo, Robertson, Aceves, Park and Marte already make an unbelievable bullpen. Mark Melancon is also waiting for his shot in the minors.

Joba to AAA. It's the only way to salvage this horrendous move.
