The Best of Hank the Tank

Throughout Hank's time with the Yankees, The Chuck Knoblog has celebrated the many memorable quotes. It has taken $400,000 and 3 years of my life but I have finally gotten the best of all these quotes in one place.

10.) Bluntly Hank says: “The American League East is by far the best division in baseball”

9.) "I don't want [small-market teams] in general to forget who subsidizes a lot of them, and it's the Yankees, the Red Sox, Dodgers, Mets. I would prefer if teams want to target the Yankees that they at least start giving some of that revenue sharing and luxury tax money back. From an owner's point of view, that's my point baseball."

8.) “Does he [Alex Rodriguez] want to go into the Hall of Fame as a Yankee or a Toledo Mud Hen"

7.) Hank's message to A-Rod: "Tell him to hit the damn ball and hit it when it counts"

6.) Hank on A-Rod opting out: "It's clear [Alex Rodriguez] didn't want to be a Yankee, He doesn't understand the privilege of being a Yankee on a team where the owners are willing to pay $200 million to put a winning product on the field. We're not going to back down ... It's goodbye."

5.) Hank on last year's slide: "This is going to get turned around. If it's not turned around this year, then it will be turned around next year, by force if we have to."

4.) "Being insulted by [Red Sox closer Jonathan] Papelbon is like being attacked by a mouse."

3) Hank expressing his feelings for the construction worker who buried the Ortiz Jersey: "I hope his co-workers kicked the s--- out of him."

2.) Hank talking about CMW's injury in inter-league play last year: "I just think it's time the NL joined the 21st century, the AL, the minors, colleges, high schools, they all have DHs."

1)"Red Sox Nation? What a bunch of [expletive] that is, That was a creation of the Red Sox and ESPN, which is filled with Red Sox fans. Go anywhere in America and you won't see Red Sox hats and jackets, you'll see Yankee hats and jackets. This is a Yankee country. We're going to put the Yankees back on top and restore the universe to order."

Hank says: Would Not Excede 5 Years on Johan

Hank "The Tank" Steinbrenner told Kat O'Brien that he would not exceed five years on a deal if they did manage to land Johan. Remember, if Johan does not like the contract he might not wave his no trade clause.

Get This Man a Muzzle

Hank Steinbrenner needs to shut up. He seems to know absolutely nothing about how to manage a baseball team, yet continues to insist that he is in charge. His latest comments on Brian Cashman:
“I always told him, `I’m going to make the final decisions because when you’re the owner you should.’ He is the general manager, and he has the right to talk me out of it and he has talked me out of some things.” (From Pete Abe)
Although Hank is Cashman's boss and can make decisions overruling Cashman, he shouldn't. Since George Steinbrenner gave total control to Brian Cashman, he has been making the right moves (except for Igawa), but two years later, his power has been stripped again. Right now if I'm Brian Cashman, who is in the final year of his contract, I reject any extension offered until Hank agrees to back off.

More Clemens and Pettitte Non-Stories

Contrary to a previous story in the LA Times, Roger Clemens and Andy Pettitte were not named in the Jason Grimsley affidavit. Basically, that's it. Nothing more. Pretty much insignificant. Doesn't change a thing. Pettitte still used HGH a few years ago and there are still doubts about Clemens. The only thing semi-newsworthy is this quote from Clemens.
“When this grossly inaccurate story broke in October 2006, Roger said it was untrue and the Los Angeles Times chose not to believe him. As the record now clearly proves, Roger was telling the truth then, just as he continues to tell the truth today. Roger Clemens did not take steroids, and anybody who says he did had better start looking for a hell of a good lawyer.” (Source: Pete Abraham)

Looks like Clemens will be taking legal action.

In other news, Hank Steinbrenner ran his mouth again. He said that there is still an outside chance that the Yankees Land Johan Santana. Well, there is an outside chance that a lot things happen. Today is a really slow news day, which is why stuff like this is being reported.

Derek Jeter
is a cool guy. He hosted an advanced screening for 500 hundrend NYC school children of the movie "Water Horse: Deep Sea Legend," as part of his Turn 2 Foundation. We pay so much attention to guys who cheat or engage in otherwise bad behavior (like dog-fighting and rain-making and Curt Schilling), and it makes you forget that there are still a few good guys left, like Derek Jeter.
