Cash Drops Some Knowledge

This is via Marc Craig of LoHud:

From Cashman, it sounds like Aceves will make at least one more rehab appearance.

...

Also from Cashman: Hughes IP limit applies only to regular season. In playoffs, it's "all hands on deck." Hughes a candidate to start.

.
Cashman also Ivan Nova as an option to help the rotation if needed.

...

Cashman says the Yankees aren't looking to make any waiver trades: "This is the team we've got."

If Nova is called up I am excited to see what this kid has, his value has been high in trade talks.

The Best of Hank the Tank

Throughout Hank's time with the Yankees, The Chuck Knoblog has celebrated the many memorable quotes. It has taken $400,000 and 3 years of my life but I have finally gotten the best of all these quotes in one place.

10.) Bluntly Hank says: “The American League East is by far the best division in baseball”

9.) "I don't want [small-market teams] in general to forget who subsidizes a lot of them, and it's the Yankees, the Red Sox, Dodgers, Mets. I would prefer if teams want to target the Yankees that they at least start giving some of that revenue sharing and luxury tax money back. From an owner's point of view, that's my point baseball."

8.) “Does he [Alex Rodriguez] want to go into the Hall of Fame as a Yankee or a Toledo Mud Hen"

7.) Hank's message to A-Rod: "Tell him to hit the damn ball and hit it when it counts"

6.) Hank on A-Rod opting out: "It's clear [Alex Rodriguez] didn't want to be a Yankee, He doesn't understand the privilege of being a Yankee on a team where the owners are willing to pay $200 million to put a winning product on the field. We're not going to back down ... It's goodbye."

5.) Hank on last year's slide: "This is going to get turned around. If it's not turned around this year, then it will be turned around next year, by force if we have to."

4.) "Being insulted by [Red Sox closer Jonathan] Papelbon is like being attacked by a mouse."

3) Hank expressing his feelings for the construction worker who buried the Ortiz Jersey: "I hope his co-workers kicked the s--- out of him."

2.) Hank talking about CMW's injury in inter-league play last year: "I just think it's time the NL joined the 21st century, the AL, the minors, colleges, high schools, they all have DHs."

1)"Red Sox Nation? What a bunch of [expletive] that is, That was a creation of the Red Sox and ESPN, which is filled with Red Sox fans. Go anywhere in America and you won't see Red Sox hats and jackets, you'll see Yankee hats and jackets. This is a Yankee country. We're going to put the Yankees back on top and restore the universe to order."

Rodriguez Has Team's Support

As expected, the Yankees are not going to turn their back on A-Rod just yet. Girardi had some things to say today concerning Rodiguez:
"I think it shows the unity of the club, and I think that's real important," Girardi said Sunday. "I think it's important that teammates back teammates, and they're there for each other, and they know during difficult times they can lean on each other. Because, you know what? There's going to be something else that comes up this year that's difficult maybe for a player to get through."
"I don't think dread is the word that I would necessarily use, but let me tell you I'm really looking forward to getting beyond Tuesday," Girardi said. "I think it will linger a little bit, I think like Andy's did in a sense, and maybe to a little larger magnitude just because people stay around for a little bit. Everyone can't stay around forever. There's other stories in the world -- hopefully fairly quickly."(ESPN)
Joe is just trying to handle this problem and get back to playing baseball.

A-Rod News and Quotes

  • According to the Daily News, A-Rod is going to make the first public comments today on ESPN. He is expected to talk with long time baseball writer Peter Gammons, and it is said that this will go down later today.
  • According to the Post, Derek Jeter made some comments concerning the A-Rod situation. Here is what he had to say:
  • "You have to give him the benefit of the doubt," Jeter told reporters today at the Yankees' training complex."My initial reaction is, let him respond," Jeter said. "Give him the respect to respond to it before you pass judgment. Yeah, of course, everybody was shocked by it," Jeter said. "You've got to find out both sides of the story before you make any assessment.
This is Jeter being a good team Captain and teammate backing up his player in his time of darkness. When Jeter was asked about his name being on the list he replied cooly:
"Why would I worry about me being on the list?" Jeter said.
    What a guy.
  • According to the same Post article, Jorge also said a few words concerning A-Rod. Jorge said he sent a text message to Alex offering support and also said this:
  • "I've gotta say Alex is my teammate and is gonna be my friend forever," Posada said. "I'm gonna support him any way I can."
When Jorge was asked about the list he had a similar response to Jeter's:
"I hope not. I thik I've done things right," Posada said.
  • The Players Union had this to say:
  • "We are prohibited from confirming or denying any allegation about the test results of any particular player(s) by the collective bargaining agreement and by court orders. Anyone with knowledge of such documents who discloses their  contents may be in violation of those court orders. Information and documents relating to the results of the 2003 MLB testing program are both confidential and under seal by court orders."
  • The MLB had this to say:
"We are disurbed by the allegations contained in the Sports Illustrated news story which was posted online because the survey testing that took place in 2003 was intended to be a non-disciplinary and anonymous, we can not make any comment on the accuracy of this report as it pertains to the player named."
