Curtis Granderson

One of the new Yankees, OF Curtis Granderson, was a topic on Sirius/XM radio this morning on the GM show starring Jim Bowden and Jim Duquette. Let me first emphasize ex-GMs because that is what they are. Both with NY baseball backgrounds they started the show by talking about the Johnny Damon signing in Detroit and how he will fit in so well in Tigerland. Then they proceeded to throw Granderson under the bus saying he was an average OF, less than average arm and couldn't hit lefties. While we know he has had trouble against lefthanders where were all these "experts" when he was a Tiger? And these are the same experts that were all over the Yankees and Damon in the beginning of 2009 saying the Yankees couldn't win with an aging Damon in left with a poor arm and less that average OF skills.
The point is this, why the bashing of Granderson and the love for Damon now? I think I know why? He is a Yankee! Heaven help someone who says good things of the "Evil Empire" on TV or the radio. These are the same clowns that had the Yankees dead and buried last May, missing the play-offs and firing their manager. And I don't remember any of these so called experts apologizing in October about their error in prediction. Once again we will hear this "garbage" all Spring and Summer and into Fall about the "Red Sox" and their superior pitching, their great closer and their grit. How their "boy wonder" GM will pull off something miraculous and how, despite all their injuries, the Red Sox will some how beat the dreaded Yankees and win the WS. Once again I say, "bring 'em on". We are the Yankees and we will beat "Red Sox Nation" on our way to #28.

More From The Scrappy Underdogs

From NoMaas:

A Boston Red Sox scout was arrested, accused of masturbating at the window of his hotel room in front of two women and two underage girls at the swimming pool, records show.

Jesse Levis, 39, faces two felony charges for committing lewd and lascivious acts in front of children under the age of 16.

According to an arrest report, the two girls, age 13 and 14, told police they had been swimming at the pool around 7 p.m. Sunday with their father when they saw Levis standing naked and masturbating at the window of his second-floor hotel room, which overlooks the pool.

The hotel manager, Ken Glass, told police a similar incident had happened last year, when Levis was checked into a room on the fourth floor overlooking the pool, the report said.

Wow. That is impressive.

Oh Thise Scrappy Underdogs

From this article:
A group of men — some with Irish accents — beat up a 23-year-old Cambridge man and sent him to the hospital after they spotted him sporting a Yankees baseball cap.

Sound like nice guys.

Hank The Tank Official Red Sox Nation Member

As you all know earlier in the week Hank the Tank bashed "Red Sox Nation" calling it " a bunch of [expletive]. Now in response Red Sox principal owner John Henry has decided to make Steinbrenner the newest member of Red Sox Nation complete with membership card and certain perks that only members can obtain, according to the Boston Herald.

"I'm a big Hank fan," Henry wrote in an email to the newspaper. "Just to ensure he knows how cool Red Sox Nation is, [Saturday] we officially inducted him as a member of Red Sox Nation and we are sending him his membership card giving him access to an array of options including our newsletter, bumper stickers, pins, Green Monster seats and a hat personally autographed by David Ortiz."

Thank you John Henry. Now I can not wait to see what Hammerin' Hank The Tank has in store for his next quote.

Santana Not Worth The Price

I am writing this from deep in the heart of Red Sox Nation, where I am visiting family. As you might expect, everyone here is a hick, and this is being written on the only computer in a five-mile radius. All I have been hearing is, "Don't worry, maybe the Bruins won't win the Stanley Cup," as well as the proclamation of Jacoby Ellsbury as the second coming of Jesus and how laptop-boy is better than Hughes.

Anyway, I found this article by Vince Gennaro, a baseball economist. He analyzes the possible Johan Santana trades and it is very interesting, you should definitely check it out. With regards to the possible Santana to Yankees deal, he says it does not make financial sense for the Yanks. He describes the prospects necessary to complete the deal as a tariff, because Santana would require a large sum of money to be signed long-term. I agree with this 100%. He doesn't say it specifically, but implies that it would make sense to sign him as a free agent after this year.

He later adds that it makes even less sense for the Red Sox, but a case could be made for a Mets trade.
