More on Tazawa

The NPB (Japanese league) and MLB have reached an agreement about Japanese amateurs moving to MLB. Any Japanese amateurs who decides to play in MLB will be banned for 3 years from playing in NPB. I don't see how this will make a difference. They`ll just ask for a 3 year contract. Its not unheard of to see drafted players get 3 year deals.

Junichi Tazawa

Here`s an excellent article on Junichi Tazawa:

What is the solution to this problem? Obviously, baseball is extremely popular in Japan and Japanese baseball is far more than just AAA level. Its not really right for ML teams to essentially turn it into another minor league level. Besides, Japan can retaliate by signing an American amateur or refusing to post their best players. On the other hand, Japanese teams just can't afford to hand out deals like the Yankees or Red Sox can. If Japan and MLB go to war MLB will win.

I don't see how this is going to end well for Japanese baseball. The best competition and the most money is in North American baseball. Can you blame the players?

Junichi Tawaza

Junichi Tawaza has decided to sign with a major league team. He`s a Japanese, amateur pitcher. In other words, he`s a prospect. I imagine Gene Michaels will take a look at him while he`s over there and the Yankees are said to be interested. I know nothing about him but I hope we scout him better than Igawa.
